Residents of Unini Village in Nyantozi sub-county, Masindi district, were stunned over the weekend upon the grim discovery of a school teacher’s decomposing body in his rented single-room accommodation.

The deceased, identified as Francis Onenchan, aged in his late 20s, served as a teacher at Trinity Nursery and Primary School in Kasenene.

Gerald Mbiya, director of Trinity Nursery and Primary School, recounted that Onenchan had last visited the school on Tuesday of that week, seeking funds to attend a relative’s funeral in Kiryandongo.

Mbiya further stated that there had been no communication from Onenchan until Saturday when one of the teachers informed him of the grim discovery in Unini Trading Centre.

John Esoku, the LC2 chairperson of Kasenene Parish, disclosed that Onenchan was known to suffer from epilepsy and had gone missing on Tuesday, prompting a search until the foul odor and presence of flies emanating from his room led to the tragic revelation on Saturday.

In response to the situation, Esoku reported that they alerted Onenchan’s relatives and the Police, who subsequently forced entry into the room and discovered his body.

Sunday Eyotu, the sub-county chairperson, expressed his condolences and emphasized the importance of avoiding solitary living arrangements to prevent similar incidents.

Despite attempts to reach Albertine Police spokesperson Julius Hakiza for comment, no response was obtained by press time.
