Students and staff of Nyumanzi Secondary School in Adjumani District have paid heartfelt tribute to the late Gen. (Rtd.) Moses Ali, describing him as a visionary leader whose commitment to peace, education, and humanitarian service transformed the lives of thousands of refugees and host communities in West Nile.
John Akuoch, a Senior Three student at Nyumanzi Secondary School, said the school community was deeply saddened by the death of the longtime Member of Parliament for Adjumani West County.
“With deep sorrow, we, the students of Nyumanzi Secondary School, mourn the passing of Gen. (Rtd.) Moses Ali, the Member of Parliament for Adjumani West County. We are grateful for his vision and unwavering support in making West Nile a place of refuge, hope, and opportunity for thousands of displaced families,” Akuoch said.
He said many young people in the refugee settlement have been able to access education because of the late leader’s commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region.
“Because of leaders like him, many of us have had the chance to learn, grow, and dream of a brighter future. His legacy of compassion, peace, and service will forever remain in our hearts. May Allah grant him eternal peace. Rest in peace, our hero,” he added.
The Headteacher of Nyumanzi Secondary School, Monica Apio, described Gen. Moses Ali as a leader whose impact went beyond politics, saying his service inspired hope among refugees and host communities.
“As Headteacher of Nyumanzi Secondary School in the Adjumani refugee settlement, I remember Gen. Al-Haji Moses Ali not only as a national leader but also as a distinguished architect of hope,” Apio said.
She said Gen. Ali’s leadership promoted accountability, education, and peaceful coexistence between refugees and host communities.
“His leadership was characterised by transparency and a steadfast commitment to education. Under his guidance, I witnessed refugee and host-community students learning together in an environment shaped by his conviction that every child deserves a meaningful future,” she said.
Apio further described the late statesman as a humble servant leader whose greatest achievements were reflected in the lives he transformed.
“He demonstrated humility, consistently prioritised service over personal recognition, and promoted unity among diverse communities. His most enduring legacy lies not in physical structures, but in the many lives he positively impacted,” she added.
She urged the next generation of leaders to emulate Moses Ali’s values of compassion, integrity, and selfless service.
“It is my hope that today’s leaders will emulate his compassion, integrity, and selfless dedication, and that our young people will recognise that true greatness is found in service to humanity. May Allah grant him eternal peace,” Apio said.
The tributes from Nyumanzi Secondary School add to the growing wave of condolences from across Uganda following the death of Gen. (Rtd.) Moses Ali, who served the country for more than five decades in both military and civilian leadership.
The former Second Deputy Prime Minister and Adjumani West County legislator is remembered for championing peace, national unity, education, and development, particularly in the West Nile and Ma’di sub-regions.
Meanwhile, more tributes continue to pour in, with Charles Dhama Wilson praising Gen. Ali for dedicating more than five decades of his life to serving Uganda and improving the lives of communities in West Nile.
