BUL Football Club secured their place in the quarterfinals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup after a thrilling encounter that saw them eliminate joint-record winners Express FC.

The match, which ended 1-1 after regular time, was decided by a shootout, with BUL emerging victorious with a 4-1 scoreline.

Ibrahim Mugulusi’s late volley, courtesy of Nicholas Mwere’s delivery, initially handed BUL a late lead.

However, Express FC quickly responded, with Edgar Katumba capitalizing on a well-delivered corner from John Assiimwe to level the score.

In the shootout, substitute goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa emerged as the hero for BUL, saving a crucial penalty and stepping up to score the winning spot-kick.

Lawrence Tezikya, Benon Tahomera, and Ibrahim Kazindula also found the back of the net from the spot for BUL.

John Assiimwe scored Express’ only penalty, Marvin Oshaba had his kick saved while Isa Lumu blazed his over the bar.

The victory sees BUL continue their pursuit of both the Uganda Premier League title and the Uganda Cup.

Having previously eliminated Simba and Kyambura Rasters in the earlier rounds, BUL now awaits the draw for the quarterfinals.

On the other hand, it marks the end of the road for Express FC in the Uganda Cup, who played their first match since the resignation of head coach Alex Isabirye.

Express will now shift their focus to the Uganda Premier League, where they are set to face rivals SC Villa in a highly anticipated Kampala Derby at Wankululuku on Saturday.
