Ugandans have been talking a lot about what has happened to Rt. Hon. Anita Among. For many, it feels like they are witnessing the downfall of corruption, and there is excitement in the air. Some are quick to celebrate; others are quick to point fingers at General Muhoozi or anyone else.
But I want to pause us and take us back to what Jesus said in Luke 13.
When people came to Jesus with news of the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices, He answered:
“Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans because they suffered this way? I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.”
He said the same about the 18 people who died when the tower in Siloam fell on them.
Jesus’ point was clear: disaster on someone else is not an invitation to judge them as the worst sinner. It’s an invitation for all of us to examine ourselves.
What we are seeing with Rt. Hon. Anita Among should not just stir celebration or condemnation. It should stir us to ask the harder question: Am I any different before God?
If God began to expose every hidden thing in our lives, would we stand?
If we don’t repent now, we risk waiting for our own downfall to wake us up. And Jesus warns us that without repentance, we will all perish.
So instead of pointing fingers, let’s turn our eyes inward.
Instead of celebrating another person’s fall, let’s fall on our knees and ask for mercy.
God’s judgment is meant to lead us to repentance, not to pride.
Call for today:
Pause and ask God to search your heart.
Repent of the sin you know He’s been speaking to you about.
Pray for our leaders and our nation, that God would have mercy and bring true righteousness.
Let’s not wait for our own “downfall” to get serious with God. The time to repent is now.
