Kawempe Muslim SS were crowned champions of the USSSA Kampala Regional Girls Football Qualifiers after edging Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga 2-1 in a final played at Hamz Stadium.

It was a moment of joy and triumph for Kawempe, who once again proved their dominance in girls’ football with a composed and determined performance against a familiar rival.

Kawempe took an early lead through their captain, Agnes Nabukenya, who unleashed a powerful strike from outside the box to give her side a deserved advantage. Her goal set the tone for an intense contest between two well-matched teams.

Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga responded with resilience, showing determination and intent as they pushed forward in search of an equaliser. Their efforts paid off in the crucial stages of the game when they were awarded a penalty, which they converted to level matters and pile pressure on the defending champions.

However, Kawempe Muslim SS quickly regained control of the game. Racheal Nanyonga restored their lead with a decisive finish, ensuring her side stayed ahead in the tightly contested encounter.

Despite Uganda Martyrs’ continued push, Kawempe held firm until the final whistle, sealing a victory and successfully defending their regional title.

Individually, Kawempe players dominated the awards. Captain Agnes Nabukenya emerged as the tournament’s top scorer with eight goals, finding the net in every match from the group stages. Vanessa Namazzi was named the Most Valuable Player, while Esther Nantongo clinched the Best Goalkeeper award.

Despite the defeat, Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga secured qualification for the national championships. They will join Kawempe Muslim SS, Gadhafi Integrated Academy, and Highland SS as Kampala’s representatives at the upcoming nationals.

Kawempe’s victory not only reaffirms their status as a powerhouse in school girls’ football but also highlights their consistency, resilience, and winning mentality on the regional stage.
